This is called English Patchwork. The pieces are folded around paper shapes and then sewn together by hand, the traditional way of doing patchwork.



This quilt block is called Storm at Sea, when you see the pattern repeated on a large quilt you can quite see why! It is one of several patterns where the layout of shapes, and placement of colours, creates an optical illusion. Check it out here!
