mountain fires

This past week has been very dramatic with fires spreading up over the mountains. On Monday we awoke to find we couldn't see the usual mountain ridges for thick smoke, the heat was tremendous and the smell of burning awful, we had to close doors and windows and turn on all the fans. Later on that evening the fires spread up, over the mountain top, to this side and several houses were destroyed, luckily no one was hurt.

I tried to take some photos, but very difficult to capture fire at night, here's two to give an idea, looks like fireworks, wish that was all that it was! The very top red ball of fire you see is the top of the mountain ridge, lower down is where it was snaking toward the houses below.

Finally on Friday, when the winds dropped a bit, the disaster services managed to extinguish the last stubborn remains of smouldering embers.
